  • Ships within the US

Studio note: every portrait begins with your cat.

Every example on this site is Cobble, our own cat. These are digital previews, not finished portraits. Photos of real finished pieces will join them once our first paintings and prints arrive.

How it works

You see it before we make it

The full process and photo guide
  1. Step 1: Send a photo

Share a favorite photo of your cat, or a few. Our photo guide shows what works best, and older photos are welcome too.

  2. Step 2: Approve your preview

We prepare a digital preview of your portrait. Ask for one free round of changes, and approve it only when it looks like your cat.

  3. Step 3: Painted or printed

Oil portraits are painted by hand by professional artists, working from your preview and your original photo. Canvas Prints are printed on canvas.

  4. Step 4: Delivered

Your portrait ships to your door, or straight to the person you're surprising, anywhere in the US.

Your cat, not a cat

The pose, the markings, the slightly unimpressed look: we keep what makes your cat yours. Here's Cobble from two everyday photos.

Memorial portraits

For the cats we've lost

A memorial portrait is a quiet way to keep them close. Send whatever photos you have, even old or imperfect ones. We'll add their name and years, and you'll see every word in your preview before anything is made.

The name

Why Cobble & Quill?

Cobble and Quill are two real cats. Cobble is the grey cat in every example on this site and lives with the studio's founder. Quill belongs to the founder's brother.

We named the studio after them because that's who it's for: the particular cat asleep on your couch, with their own markings and their own opinions.
